Toobin’

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I figured I should post the samples I recorded from my sample gathering two tuesdays ago.  This was actually an incredibly easy goal despite my thinking that this was probably a hard level to get to.  Boy was I wrong.  I was able to accomplish many other things that day, don’t worry – Toobin’ just happened to be the best thing I was doing at the time.  So here’s that synth shredding I was talking about last week:

Ice World Noise Band

While getting to this level, I noticed that the Jurassic/Dinosaur themed level also had some interesting sounds to it, so I took a bit of that, too

Dinosaur Funk Music

This tune is pretty simple (I took out the bass and “drums”), and we’re left with the two lead oscillators performing a kind of synthesizer abuse.  I’d like to speed this sample up to the point where the rhythm is no longer discernible, and the deviations in pitch come off as timbral warblings, rather than as a bouncy rhythm-melody.  Then I think we’ll really be ragin.

Sample Gathering

One of my goals for today is to get to the ice level in the Nintendo game, Toobin’, so I can sample part of the music. For whatever reason, the sound designers for Toobin’ thought that the music for the first third of this level should consist entirely of two synthesizers bending notes very close to one another in ominous cacophony. It sounds rad as hell. The rest of the level is just the rockabilly song from level one (who cares).
